• Sam talks "Walkin' Boss"

This is a song about trains. It is the first song I ever learned on the banjo. I learned it from the great Jeff Davis and I still love the way he sings it. He was an unassuming dude who we would see around at folk festivals and gatherings, and his banjo playing was un-flashy and seemed simple. But his rhythmic feel on the banjo is super deep, and his singing is so real that you could put him on a compilation of mountain field recordings and nobody would bat an eyelash.
